"I have been supporting the Institute since October 2005. Due to the fate of my first wife, I became deeply involved with the topic of “cancer” and was impressed from the very beginning by the great dedication of those involved—they are always wholeheartedly committed. Together with Mrs. Barkmann, I inspected the construction site at the time and later found it very rewarding to be able to personally support the development of this research facility. On a personal level, everything clicked right away as well. Since then, we have been united by the hope that, step by step, we can improve children’s chances of recovery together and thereby make a very meaningful contribution to the common good.

Having direct contact with the staff is a pleasure for every donor, and it is very satisfying to see how carefully and responsibly the funds are used. Supporting young people remains close to my heart. Naturally, I also follow the path of “my” doctoral students and have often been a guest at the defense of their dissertations. It was always wonderful to see how they were congratulated afterward by family and friends, especially when they passed with distinction.

We should all continue along this path together for a long time to come."
